Mrs. Tanita Sweat is a dual-board certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina. With a wealth of experience in treating psychiatric disorders across the lifespan, she is dedicated to providing comprehensive care to individuals facing mental health challenges.
Tanita earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain University, and her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Liberty University. She has been practicing as a nurse practitioner since 2018. Additionally, Tanita completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky and has been a part of the healthcare field since 2005. As a military spouse, she is particularly proud to serve and partner with veterans in their mental health care journey.
Tanita strongly believes in the mind-body-spiritual connection and views compassion and empathy as essential elements in establishing individualized, therapeutic relationships with her patients and their families. In addition to medication management, she takes a holistic approach to treatment, focusing on restoring balance in all aspects of life. Sessions include brief supportive therapy interventions, with an emphasis on counseling related to diet, mindfulness, and healthy sleep habits.
With experience providing psychiatric evaluations and medication management for pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations, Tanita treats a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and ADHD. She delivers evidence-based care while integrating a holistic approach to mental health treatment.
Tanita is committed to active listening and fostering a non-judgmental environment that helps destigmatize mental health issues. She demonstrates compassion and patience, creating a safe space for those navigating mental health challenges.
